Wood and Concrete Block have been great contributors to energy loss.  Wood makes up 25% of the exterior wall surface.  Kiln dried wood contains 12~14% moisture that readily conducts heat and cold from the inside to the outside as shown.  Concrete block is very porous, wicks moisture, and is an extremely poor insulator.  An 8” block only has an R-1.8 insulation value, a 4-inch wall an R-8, and a 6-inch wall, an R-19.  CBS wall panels are factory assembled and the builder can choose from CBS R-22 to R-40 in their 6-inch walls. 

For the first time, the buyer has a choice of insulation types and insulation ability.  Rigid fiberglass batts, rolled blankets of fiberglass or rock wool, cellulose loose fill, expanded polystyrene sheets, and foamed in insulation can all be used in CBS walls and roofs. CBS prefers to a closed cell structural foam.  This type of insulation seals the wall, adds resistance to winds and earthquakes, prevents air infiltration, and stops water migration.  This type of foam can not wet out an lose insulation properties as fiberglass and rock wool insulation can.  These foams do not support mold or mildew growth.”
